Learn Proseport · Lesson 1 of 11 · 3 min

Install Proseport and open your first document

Download the app, open the example documents and set Proseport as your Markdown app.

You'll learn to
  • Install Proseport on your Mac
  • Open the built-in example documents
  • Create, save and reopen a document
  1. Download and install

Click Download for Mac on the download page, open the download and drag Proseport to your Applications folder. Proseport runs on macOS 13 Ventura and later.

  2. Open the example documents

Open Proseport and choose Help ▸ Example Documents. Proseport copies seven sample documents to Documents/Proseport Examples and opens the Welcome Tour. Nothing in them can break, so experiment freely.

  3. Make Proseport your Markdown app (optional)

Choose Proseport ▸ Make Default for Markdown Files. From then on, double-clicking any .md file opens it in Proseport.

  4. Create your first document

Press ⌘N for a new window or ⌘T for a new tab, type a line such as # My first note, then press ⌘S and pick a folder. Proseport saves plain .md files that any other Markdown app can open.

  5. Know that your work is safe

Proseport autosaves and recovers unsaved work after a crash. File ▸ Auto Save Changes to Files writes every change straight to disk, if you prefer that.

Try it

Open 01 Welcome Tour from the examples and keep it open. Most lessons refer back to it.
