Focus, goals and writing stats
Dim distractions, keep your line centred, set a word goal and check readability.
- Write with Focus and Typewriter modes
- Set a word count goal
- Read your document's stats
Pro Word count goals and the Stats panel are Pro features. Focus and Typewriter modes are free. Try it free for 14 days.
Focus mode
⌃⌘P dims everything except the paragraph you're writing. The Focus button in the footer does the same.
Typewriter mode
⌃⌘T keeps the current line in the middle of the window, so your eyes stay in one place.
Set a goal
Click Set goal in the footer (or View ▸ Word Count Goal…) and enter a number. A progress bar fills as you write and turns green when you reach it.
Writing stats
⌃⌘3 opens Stats: words, characters, reading time, sentence length and the Flesch Reading Ease score (higher is easier to read), grade levels, long sentences, adverbs and passive voice, plus your most-used words and phrases. Select text to see stats for just that part.
Full screen
⌃⌘F for a full-screen window with nothing else in view.
Open 06 Short Story Draft, set a goal of 500 words, turn on Focus and Typewriter, and write one paragraph.
