Format without remembering syntax

Use the toolbar, the Format menu and shortcuts to format text, and let lists continue themselves.

You'll learn to
  • Format a selection with shortcuts
  • Let lists and tasks continue automatically
  • Insert links, images and code blocks
  1. Select, then format

Select a word and press ⌘B, ⌘I or ⌘K (link). The same commands are on the toolbar and in the Format menu, so you never need to remember the symbols.

  2. Headings in one keystroke

Put the cursor on a line and press ⌥⌘1, ⌥⌘2 or ⌥⌘3.

  3. Lists continue themselves

Press Enter at the end of a list item to start the next one. Press Enter on an empty item to end the list. ⇧⌘8, ⇧⌘7 and ⇧⌘9 turn lines into bullets, numbers or tasks.

  4. Tick tasks off

Click a task's checkbox in Live or View and Proseport updates the [ ] in the file for you.

  5. Code and quotes

⌥⌘C inserts a fenced code block; add a language name such as python after the opening fence for highlighting. ⇧⌘' turns lines into a quote.

  6. Spell check

Misspelled words are underlined as you type. Toggle it with ⇧⌘; or the Spelling button in the footer.

Try it

Write three lines, select them all and press ⇧⌘9 to turn them into a task list.
