The four views: Edit, Live, Split and View
Pick the view that suits the moment: raw source, formatted-as-you-type, side by side, or reading only.
You'll learn to
- Switch views with one shortcut
- Use Live preview to edit formatted text
- Pick the right view for the task
Edit (⌘1)
Plain Markdown source with syntax highlighting. Best when you want to see exactly what's in the file.
Live (⌘4)
Formatting renders as you type. Click into a line and its Markdown appears so you can change it; move away and it renders again. This is the view most people write in.
Split (⌘2)
Source on the left and preview on the right, scrolled together. Handy for tables, math and diagrams.
View (⌘3)
Just the finished document, as a reader sees it. Task checkboxes still work here.
Light or dark
Press ⇧⌘T or click the half-moon button on the toolbar to switch themes.
Try it
In the Welcome Tour, switch to Live and click on a bold word to reveal its stars.
